NSW and Commonwealth legislation

Legislation in force

NSW loan copies are located in Bay 82 to 83 and Commonwealth copies in Bay 87 to 89.

Loan copies include numbered statutes (not yet reprinted) and reprinted Acts and Regulations. These items are contained in manila or plastic envelopes and arranged alphabetically in archive boxes.

It is the policy of the library to ensure loan copies of Acts are kept up-to-date. All amendments are attached to NSW Acts; only major amendments are attached to Commonwealth Acts.

Each envelope should contain a numbered statute or reprint plus amending legislation (see diagram). Envelopes for NSW Acts may also contain blue government updating sheets. These sheets are no longer being published.


Bound volumes

Bound volumes of numbered Acts and Regulations are available for loan. NSW volumes are located in Bay 82 to 83 and Commonwealth volumes in Bay 87 to 89. Bound volumes of NSW Regulations ceased publication in 2009.

The library maintains a reference collection of numbered Acts for NSW and numbered Regulations for Commonwealth for the current year. These items are not for loan.

Archived reprints (superseded and repealed)

It is the policy of the library to archive all reprinted NSW and Commonwealth legislation once it has been superseded or repealed. Archived legislation is not for loan.

Superseded reprints are kept in Bay 30 to 34 while repealed reprints are in Bay 34 to 37.


Bills and EMs

NSW Bills and Explanatory Notes (found at the front of the First Print of a Bill) are available from 1992 onwards. They are kept in Bay 37 to 38 and are not for loan. The library also holds annual compilations of Explanatory Notes from 1987 onwards. These are shelved in Bay 38 and are not for loan.

The library's collection of Commonwealth Bills and EMs date back to 1992. They are kept in Bay 39 to 41 and are not for loan.


Hansard

The library holds NSW Hansard from 1979 onwards in Bay 83 to 84.


Interstate legislation

The library holds bound volumes of historical consolidated legislation for the ACT, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria in Bay 86.
